I think people will not even bother to go BK in the future. What would be the point in a collapsing system, which many will be exiting anyway, as local economies become more important, and personal relationships will dictate community and resource access?

Ken,
I was going to mention the "ghosts of Tanta" posts but thought you were still taking a break.

"Foreign workers which one can hire for $14,000 for year are not comparable to most American workers"

American students in their achievement tests rank far below most of the developed world and below many of the developing world. We spend the most of any country on schools and have the least to show for it.

When Toyota first started hiring US workers, they found that they had to hire American workers with a Master's degree to have the math capability of a Japanese worker with a high school degree.

The elite American workers may be the best in the world. But the average American worker cannot compete in the global workplace at his current salary.. And unfortuantely, there are many more average workers than elite workers.

If the big Three could not survive in the largest auto market in the world (until January 2009 - China is now bigger, at least in units), why will any other manufacturing jobs survive?

There will be no rebirth of manufacturing in the US at current salary levels.

More pension money down the drain. I can't wait until PERS and STRS join the PPIP:

Calpers Apollo Bet Sours as Private Equity Doubles Down on Debt

By Jonathan Keehner and Jason Kelly

April 3 (Bloomberg) -- The California Public Employees’ Retirement System poured $1.71 billion into Apollo Management LP last year, more than twice as much as it gave any other private- equity manager, betting that the firm could exploit the global credit crisis. So far, the bet is coming up snake eyes.

I've noticed an issue with the import of existing posts and comments - if you click on archived posts, some of them will take you to a phantom post that contains no comments.

There were some posts that were missed in the import, because the archived summary post pages contained malformed html. Don't panic - I'm going to go back and get these by hand. Please do not click on the comments for archived posts at the moment.

Also, note that any comments you add to these phantom posts will be deleted.

Thanks again everyone for your patience during the transition.

Intercontinental Nuclear Missile Delivery System == 1 TEU.

The first nukes will be conventional explosives dirty bombs regardless.

How are divorce lawyers doing? Does a crappy economy increase or decrease breakups? I'm guessing that a lot of couples feel forced to stay together and that results in more spousal abuse cases.

Then begin selling protection, Mafia-style, to those countries willing to pay for military protection. That should bring in enough more cash to plug the federal deficit.

Yeah, use our kids as mafia thug mercenaries in foreign lands. GREAT idea. How about you send YOUR kids first (though anyone who comes up with an idea like that probably has no children).

Werner agitates on Sun, 04/05/2009 - 5:49am.

If CR had done the math (and not skirted it) , his headline would have been the above one .

Britain has more problems than just bankruptcies. If you had bothered to do the reading (and not skirted it) you'd see that this is but more evidence and not the entirety of the argument.
