WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says the federal government is preparing to offer several incentives to get Americans to buy more U.S.-made cars. ¶
In a White House speech, Obama said the IRS will start notifying consumers who purchased cars after Feb. 16 that they can deduct the cost of any sales and excise taxes. The program would remain in effect till year’s end. ¶
Obama says he wants to work with Congress to use parts of the economic stimulus package to fund a program that would allow consumers to get a "generous credit" when they replace an older, less fuel-efficient car and buy a new, cleaner car. ¶
The president says he wants to make the program retroactive starting Monday. It’s meant to boost car sales in the U.S., which have seen their worst decline in 27 years. ¶
Obama also said the government will guarantee warranties on any GM or Chrysler vehicles. ¶

Is that not why Paulson and Timmy G. have been playing whack-a-mole since Lehman? At some point, some conterparty is going to go BK and the hundred trillion ponzi comes down? Even if all counter-parties were whole, the unwind would pull "assets" off of ballance sheets and send the big banks in to BK.

They have had 6 mos. to evaluate the scope of this mess and I have seen no sign that TPTB have a grasp of it. It would appear that they are just going to have the Fed/Treasury cut a check, but that has it's own inflationary implications. It would appear that they are caught between everything going BK or inflationary defalt. For now, it appears they are trying to keep buying time, but it would take years and a some point, someone will slip up.

Obama uses a teleprompter and some think that's a bad thing. Glad all of those cynics don't use notes when making speeches--they don't have to worry about misspeaking because their words mustn't carry much consequence. Obama might be a lot of things, but he's obviously a whole lot smarter than his predecessor.

As for the car warrantees, without that assurance, no one would buy a GM car once they heard that bankruptcy was probable. Under those conditions, BHO would have been hesitant to speak the truth. Sometimes surgeons have to amputate a limb to save a patient--a lesser of two evils. To think that this mess was going to be fixed without doing some "evil" is ideologic simplicity.

We recently heard a president complain that his job was hard work, very hard, and he went off on needed vacations. Now we have a president making hard decisions, some will probably fail, but he's working hard and not on the ranch hiding. He deserves constructive criticism, but not teleprompter foolishness, not ridicule for doing a needed amputation. Remember, he's not a god, and neither are we.

Buy extra keys now. If you don't have two original keys you will have to have the new ones flashed by a dealer (way too much money), If you have two originals you can flash them yourself (see manual). Who knows who winds up with the key code information from the manufacturer in a liquidation and how long it will take for them to agree on how to split the proceeds with the various vendors that provide the hardware to dealers.

Mosrt mechanical parts shouldn't be a big deal. Even body parts will be available for a good while yet. In a couple of years the small elctrical and plastic bits will get difficult. It's the stupid little computerized s*** that's going to kill owners if they go BK.
