About language services
When language translation and interpretation services are required, Mr. Campbell uses the Linguist Databank of the International Assistance Project of Alabama, which offers linguists commanding more than 30 languages. Foreign-language speakers are available Monday through Friday, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. (Central Time), with a Spanish speaker onsite. Callers uncomfortable in speaking the English language who would like to talk with a lawyer personally may leave a voice message, after office hours, in their native language. Education
A graduate of Montgomery's public schools, Mr. Campbell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1974, a Master of Science degree in Journalism from Columbia University, New York, New York, in 1977, and his Juris Doctor degree from Jones School of Law, Montgomery, Alabama, in 1987.
Military service
Mr.
Campbell was assigned to Fort Benning,
Georgia, where he attended Officer
Candidate School and was a Distinguished Military Graduate. He
has almost 12 years of enlisted and commissioned service in the Alabama
Army National Guard and in the U.S.
Army Reserve. He served as a staff officer with the 31st Support
Group of the 167th
Support Command, and as a Signal commander with the 142d
Signal Brigade, which can trace its history to the famous 4th
Alabama Regiment. Mr. Campbell was honorably discharged at the
rank of Captain. He served in South
Korea during Team
Spirit exercises in the late 1980s, in Panama
during the Nicaraguan counter-revolution in 1985, and in West
Germany in 1983 during the strategic
introduction of cruise missiles, which was accomplished with the cooperation
of the German government to persuade the Soviets to withdraw their intermediate-range
nuclear missiles targeting western Europe. His last assignment in
the U.S. Army Reserve was with U.S. Central Command at Fort MacDill, Air
Force Base, Florida.
On
Sept. 14, 2002, Mr. Campbell was awarded the Ehrenkruez Silber medal (Silver
Cross of Honor) by the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany
for his service as a Goodwill Ambassador for the International Officer
School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and for sponsoring the German
Luftwaffe student at the Air Command and Staff College for the many years.
Personal
Mr.
Campbell was born in Wuerzburg, Germany,
in 1951 to Elizabeth D. Campbell and the late Dr. E. Fred Campbell.
He is married to the former Linda Marie Anderson, a social work administrator
for the Department of
Human Resources of the State of Alabama. He and his wife have
two daughters. His civic interests include his service as Chairman
of the International Assistance Project of Alabama,
Inc., and as Special Counsel to the Alabama
Jazz & Blues Federation. His support for classical music
is reflected in his work and support for the Montgomery
Symphony Orchestra. He has been an active member of First
Baptist Church of Montgomery,
Alabama, since 1960, and supports its
Community
Ministries and citizenship classes. He has served as an immigration
workshop leader for
Associational/Cooperative
Missions of the Alabama Baptist State
Convention and the Church
and Community Ministries Evangelism Unit of the North
American Mission Board of the Southern
Baptist Convention. He is a frequent lecturer at Shocco
Springs, a Southern Baptist mission retreat in Talladega,
Alabama.
From
1974 until 1988, Mr. Campbell was a professional journalist and was employed
by the Columbus (Georgia) Enquirer,
the Eufaula (Alabama) Tribune and Cuthbert (Georgia)
Times
and News-Record, and the St. Petersburg (Florida) Independent
(defunct, now The St. Petersburg
Times). In 1982, he served as an Alabama stringer for a then-new
national newspaper, USA Today,
and also served as a stringer for The
New York Times from 1981 to 1988.
