thee End

And that was the last time I’d seen anyone from thee Wytches again. I’d heard through the grapevine that his family had put Eric in a mental hospital, but the details were non-existent. Later I heard he did some work with Andy Pratt. But again these were just second hand and not from the most reliable of sources.

The family home in Beverly was sold and I suspect they’ve all gone out to the West Coast.

Jeff and Lenny…I’ve got no idea where they are.

On a closing note, I heard that they were extras in the movie, "Thomas Crown Affair". There is this scene surrounding a polo match that was filmed at famous Country Club in Wenham. Myopia. That’s it, Myopia. Well this polo match is filmed with multiple frames; and on a several occasions Jeff and Lenny appear looking very amused, with hair nicely in place and donning very respectible threads. I mean this is one high class country club. How they ever got into this is beyond me. They were great guys and I’d like to see them again.

Ray…I heard he was living in France and spending his family’s money. Then again, I’d heard he was a sociologist in New York. I don’t know if Pamela’s still with him or not. I kind of doubt it.

Me? After I got out of the Army I went out to Seattle to work in my uncle’s construction business. After a couple of years I returned to Massachusetts and joined the ranks of the law enforcement profession and recently retired. Thus I’d like to keep my name out of it. This is not about me anyway, and I don’t care if anyone believes me or not.

As far as I know, I’m the only witness left to tell the tale of thee Wytches, and that’s sad. No band member has surfaced and no recordings seem to exist. I’ve snooped around music web sites for a while to see if anything would come up, but nothing. It’s like searching for Bigfoot. I know the first studio album master exists, or used to. I’m not certain if anything was done after that or not, but it seems unlikely.

There is a chance that some live recordings exist somewhere, because I happen to know that an outfit called "Essex Radio" had supposedly taped a gig at the Salem Armory. I’d love to get a copy of it and would pay a LOT of money for a decent quality bootleg. I’m keeping an eye out for anyone posting info about Wytches bootlegs, posters or photos. Most of whatever is left is probably back in Massachusetts buried in a landfill, or in some warehouse in New York.

So, that’s the story. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since thee Wytches self-destructed. It is spooky how such a big part of my life revolved around a scene that has totally vanished. There are probably only a handful of people who remember what could have been the greatest band that never was. I don’t even know if any of those people are still alive.

Maybe it was meant to be…they were into some crazy shit, even by ‘60s standards.

You know…there’s a lesson in there somewhere, but I’m damned if I can find it.
